Young entrepreneurs Nathan Horne and Matt Clow are putting a new spin on the elevator pitch. The Halifax duo, who met in an entrepreneurship class at Saint Mary’s University, have teamed up to offer prospective advertising clients a powerful value proposition: a totally captive audience and a medium as yet untapped in Halifax – elevator advertising.
Horne got the idea last year when he noticed an ad in the elevator of an Ottawa building. “It was the only thing to look at – I wondered why it wasn’t done in Halifax.”
Spotlight Media, launched this summer, is the answer to Horne’s “I wonder” question. While the pair both studied commerce, they say the Students in Business program has helped them better understand the practicalities of running a business. “SIB is helping us get the business off the ground,” says Clow. With their upward-thinking idea and bang-up business plan, Spotlight Media is not only off the ground – it’s heading up the elevator.
